What is that fabric?

While working at any clothing store, you will get a lot of questions about where your items come from and what fabrics are used. With our Fall and Winter suppliers, there are specific fabric percentage tags that we can point at and let you know. During the Spring and Summer, Jamie heads off to Thailand and creates fashions of her own with Jamin, a native Thai Rasta that Jamie has collaborated with for many years. Often times, last season, I was asked why we don’t have these specific percentage-of-fabric labels on our own line. You may have already noticed that we have them sewn in this year, so you’ll know exactly what you’re wearing!

Here is something you may not have known, Jamin seeks out Remanence Fabrics, recycled fabrics that big suppliers had bought far too much of, finished with, and were ready to just get rid of. Instead of letting these perfect never used fabrics go, Jamie and Jamin buy and use them for our beautiful fashions. This allows our production to be less expensive without sacrificing style or our personal standards. We get so excited having these designs created and finally tried on by our customers! When you try on our Spring and Summer lines you’ll know that you’re slipping on something that was carefully created by a group of passionate creative people. We believe it’s important to recycle as often as possible, and that includes these gorgeous fabrics that were one step away from being wasted for no reason. This is why you’ll see one design in a few different kinds of fabrics and patterns, not only is it our vision to have many different choices for you, but it’s also because we are using as many of our recycled resources as possible, to its’ best advantage.

Our newest lines are coming in now until mid June, so we welcome you to be the first customers to try on all of the new designs. I have already bought a couple myself. You’ll love the Ellie Dress! It’s perfect for all of us busty ladies who have trouble finding dresses that fit all around! It’ll be on our sale floor in the coming weeks. I am sure you’ll see me in it soon. What is Bumbershoot?

Bumbershoot®: Seattle’s Music & Arts Festival is now in its 40th year. Since 1971, Bumbershoot has drawn artists representing the best in music, film, comedy, spoken word, dance, theatre, performance, and visual arts to the Seattle Center over Labor Day weekend. How does Bumbershoot work?

How is Bumbershoot funded?

Bumbershoot is produced by One Reel, the largest non-profit arts organization in Washington State. Ticket revenue pays for approximately 65% of the cost to produce the event and to book top national, international and regional artists for your entertainment. The generous support of Bumbershoot sponsors and grantors pays for the remaining 35%, and allows One Reel to keep ticket prices low for Festival patrons.

Seattle Hempfest

Just a small trip up to Seattle and a whole lot of fun! Hempfest 2010 should be the biggest yet. The festival aims to educate the public about hemp and the many uses it can serve to us, while entertaining us with an amazing lineup of musicians! It’s a must-attend event that we hope that you will head to along side Gypsy Chic. We will bring along our festival stock and we hope to see some familiar fans.

Each year Seattle Hempfest creates a 32 page Event Program. The Event Program highlights the many exciting partnerships and opportunities for Hempfest attendees. Hempfest goers preserve their programs as memorabilia, offering the advertiser a unique opportunity for long-term branding.

The Seattle Hempfest draws thousands of people to its’ waterfronts to enjoy the last throws of Summer. Why shouldn’t you too?

Seattle Hempfest is held the third weekend in August each year. The next Seattle Hempfest isAugust 20-21-22, 2010. The event spans three Seattle waterfront parks: Elliott Bay Park (North Entrance), Myrtle Edwards Park, and Olympic Sculpture Park (South Entrance).

Seattle Hempfest is now a 3 day event! The event hours are from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. And 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission to Seattle Hempfest is free.

Northwest World Reggae Festival 2010!

In the spirit of travels and coming together with other free spirits, Gypsy Chic will be happily attending NWWRF once again! Last year was such a wonderful experience, it’s no surprise that we will be going back again! We would love for you to join us as well, think of it as a last kick in Oregon before you head back to school! (IF you still attend school that is), if not, think of it as a last taste of Summer sun!

GIVE THANKS! Our SITE is located twenty miles north of Eugene, Oregon in the foothills of the Cascades. This years entertainers will bless up the massive on a tree lined stage in the midst of a natural amphitheater. Get ready for the cool comfort of camping in the country! A village of campsites run along trails through the woods under a forested canopy. This walk-in campsite is close to parking and worth the effort! Set up, kick back then get ready to DANCE. No worries- There are drinking water spouts ALL over the place. This site is peaceful and very comfortable. Blaze up by a bonfire into the night but be sure to bring warm clothes for the latenite dance hall. Chances are there will be great star gazing opportunities too! It’s a place the whole family will LOVE.

Pickathon

Pickathon, another event that we are quite excited to be apart of once again, will be from August 6th-8th. It’s close by at Pendarvis Farm Mt Scott in good old Portland Oregon. Its’ 80 acres holds an abundance of bands, vendors and fans, and as its’ 12th year, 2010 should be it’s biggest year yet! The dog days of summer don’t keep thousands of people from attending.

Here’s just a few of the myriad of reasons you should make your plans today.

o Pickathon provides one of the best summer festival lineups of 2010. No other festival brings you the mix of indie roots music you will see at Pickathon. It is a true music lover’s paradise.

o Continuous three day weekend of music presented on 6 stages (Mt. View Stage [outdoor], Fir Meadows Stage [outdoor], Woods Stage [Solar Powered - outdoor], Starlight Stage [All Ages - Late Night - outdoor], the Galaxy Barn [indoor], and the Workshop Barn [workshops]. The indoor Galaxy Barn stage becomes a late-night (21+) venue at 9pm until 2AM.

NW String Summit 2010

Located in Hordings Hideout, North Plains OR, the North West String Summit is the perfect midsummer festival for you to attend. We will have an amazing lineup of artists from all over, so why not take a few days to camp out? You are able to buy tickets on their online website to camp out and to simply attend the event. This can include even a three day pass! We are so very excited to be involved in String Summit again, it’s always so laid back and welcoming, how could we not go back this year? Blues Fest

Right here in the heart of Portland Oregon, our home, is our Annual Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival from July 2nd- July 5th. This exciting music festival is owned and operated by the Oregon Food Bank and is a major fund raiser! The musical lineup should be very exciting this year, for a complete list go to http://www.waterfrontbluesfest.com/ the Blues Cruise, Festival Passes, and after hours blues jam tickets are already on sale!

Located on the beautiful Waterfront, you won’t believe how many fun vendors and musicians show up for this four day festival to fight hunger with the food bank. We will be right there hoping to see some friendly faces from our own fan crew. It’s such an exciting time of year around Independence Day to begin with, but when such a fun carefree festival is involved, you’re almost guaranteed a wonderful holiday!

The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival has raised more than 1.35-million pounds of food and $4-million dollars to help fight hunger over the last 22 years. Admission is a donation of $10 PLUS two cans of food per person per day.

Here is a list of items that should and should not be brought to donate:

We are so very excited to be apart of this festival once again! Located in the Mendocino Fairgrounds in Boonville California, the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is held annually.
